Introduction: Nicole

Hi everyone,
So I’m Nicole Amoruso.  I’m a senior English major and I will be graduating in December.  I’m also minoring in Spanish.  I grew up in a small town called Blanchard that is actually pretty close to OU.  I transferred to OU my sophomore year, which ended up working out really well for me.  I’ve worked at OU Outreach for the past year and a half and love it.  I’m incredibly excited for this semester.  I’ll be graduating and then I’m taking a trip to Europe with my best friend over New Years.  After graduation, I’m planning on attending grad school here at OU for MIT.
I love reading and writing; I’ve had a couple of pieces published by my previous university.  I wish I could say what my favorite novel is, but I’m super indecisive.  I also go to local concerts and shows with my friends whenever I can.  My family is also really important to me.  I’m very close to my nieces and my nephew.  My oldest niece, Katelynn, is graduating high school this year, and I’m incredibly proud of her.

My parents are beyond amazing.  They’ve given me all the tools I need to get through life and are there for me whenever I need them.  I also have a lot of friends who have become family.  A large part of my family lives in Venezuela and Italy, but we take every opportunity to see each other.  I’ve taken several trips there and they’ve taken several trips here.  Even when we can’t visit, we talk to each other all the time.

I love animals and am super excited to get my own as soon as I can.  My parents have a dog and two cats.  We got the dog about a year and a half ago, and he has been craziest, best pet we’ve ever had.  His name is Stig and he is named after the guy on Top Gear.  He acts like he is a person instead of a dog most of the time.

*Introduction Update: It seems like one of the most common things throughout the comments on my introduction is well-wishes and congratulations, so I just thought I’d take a second to say thanks to everyone!  It was really neat to read everyone’s comments and see how they related to my introduction.

  1. Oh, look at all those great pictures, Nicky! Or do you go by Nicole...? Let me know: I saw Nicky in your email I think, but then you used Nicole here, so I was not sure. And what a great combination of majors: I bet you will find so many points of intersection with the readings in this class and your own interests: Venezuela AND Italy! How great to have excuses to go traveling. I hope you will enjoy the class... maybe Stig can even make an appearance in one of your stories! Dogs are an important part of folklore and mythology all over the world after all. Anyway, I hope you will have fun with the class, finding lots of stories to enjoy... and maybe even some technology useful for MIT too! :-)

  2. Wow! What an interesting introduction! It must be fun to be able to visit your family in Italy! I am very close to my nephew so I know how proud you must be of your nieces and nephew! It’s wonderful that your parents have been there to help you and be a good support system. How exciting to have some of your writing published! Good luck with all of your classes!

  3. I really enjoyed all the pictures you have on your blog. I love seeing everybody's family and hearing about what they are interested in. I think it is crazy how different everyone can be but in the best way because we need someone of every expertise. I went to Italy this summer and loved every second of it! Where in Italy does your family live? It's so great that you can go visit them! That probably creates some amazing family memories from those vacations. Good luck with your senior year! :)

    1. I'm glad you enjoyed Italy! Where all did you go? They're from a town called Bari. It's on the south-east coast.

  4. Congratulations on being so close to graduation! It always feels good to finally accomplish a goal, especially one that's been some time coming. What kind of pieces did you have published? Since they were published by the University, I am thinking maybe they were scholarly, but that's still super cool! I also think it's really cool that you are so close with your family, even those who are far away and have so many great pictures to share. (Also congrats to your niece for graduation!)

    1. Thanks! The pieces that I had published were actually short stories. I don't know if I would have the patience it would take to get something scholarly published...haha

    1. It seems like so many of us in this class are graduating either in December or in May. I know what you mean about all the different feelings. Right now, excitement seems to be winning though. Hopefully you do get to travel after graduation. I don't know about you, but the idea of New Years in France (or anywhere in Europe really) sounds amazing haha.

  7. Hey there, Nicole! It's so awesome that you've had pieces published at your previous school! I love reading and writing too (although I wish I had more time for both), and I can only hope to have something of mine published someday. I'm happy that your family is so supportive of you and that you're close to them! Family is extremely important to me too. Well it was great reading your intro, nice to meet you!

  11. Hey Nicole,

It was so great reading about you! I love how important your family is to you because I think that is one of the most important things that life can give you is a good family. I really enjoyed all the pictures, too. You will love Europe! I’ve been a couple times to Italy, Germany, France, Austria, and all around that area and had the time of my life. Take tons of pictures and remember to eat a lot because Europe is full of wonderful food! Good luck in your very last semester at OU!

  12. Hi there Nicole! It's so nice to meet you.
I love that you provided us so many pictures! I like looking at pictures in people's introductions because it helps me put a face to the name on here and I just like looking at pictures in general haha. Congratulations on graduating a semester early this December. I hope that there are many great things for you after graduation. When I get a chance to sit down, I would love to read one of your novels! Good luck this semester! :)

  13. Hello again Nicole! I loved your introduction because of all the photos. I myself had trouble narrowing down which photos to use! You seem very family-oriented and I think that is very honorable. I am a big family girl myself. I think it's cool how you are majoring in English, but minoring in Spanish! Best of both worlds I guess. I also cannot wait to own my own dog after college. I wish I could get one now, but my landlord would not be happy, plus I feel like I would not be able to give it enough attention with school and everything. Someday!

  14. Hello again, Nicole!

You have a beautiful family – and so spread out geographically! It must be amazing traveling to visit them in Italy and Venezuela. Congratulations on being published, too – that’s awesome! The rabbit rescue I volunteer at is out in Blanchard and I love the drive out; it’s such beautiful country! Best of luck with the rest of your semester and with grad school!

  18. Hi Nicole! With graduation right around the corner you must be getting really excited! I think a trip right after is the perfect way to unwind after finals. Kudos to you for having everything planned out. I’m not quite certain on what I want after college. Good luck to you on the rest of the semester and in your future endeavors!
